Extracting Google Trends Trending Now data: what is trending, with volume buckets

Google Trends Trending Now lists the searches that are rising fastest in a country right now, each with Google's approximate search volume bucket, such as 20,000+ or 5M+. The bucket covers the whole trend, not one keyword. An API run returns every trending search for any country and window, at $0.50 per 1,000 trends.

Google Trends Trending Now is the page of Google Trends that lists the searches rising fastest in a country right now. Each trend groups related searches, carries an approximate volume bucket and belongs to one or more categories, such as Sports or Technology.

The Trending Now volume bucket is Google’s approximate count of searches for a trend, shown as a floor such as 500+, 20,000+ or 5M+. The Google Trends feed for the United States listed «california flooding» at 20,000+ and «strait of hormuz news» at 5,000+ on September 30, 2026. The bucket counts searches for the trend as a whole, so it is not the search volume of one keyword.

Each Trending Now row carries 7 fields in the Google Trends API.

  1. keyword: the trend’s main search.
  2. searchVolume and searchVolumeLabel: the bucket, such as 5000000 and «5M+».
  3. increasePct: the increase in percent.
  4. categories: Google’s categories for the trend.
  5. startedAt and endedAt: when the trend started and ended.
  6. isActive: whether the trend is still rising.
  7. relatedQueries: the related searches grouped into the trend.

There are 3 steps to extract Trending Now data via the Google Trends API.

  1. Set mode to trending and list the countries in trendingGeos.
  2. Choose the window in trendingHours: 4, 24, 48 or 168 hours.
  3. Filter with trendingCategories, trendingActiveOnly or maxTrendingPerGeo.

Trending Now costs $0.50 per 1,000 trends, so the United States over 24 hours, about 300 trends, costs about $0.15.

Trending Now vs related queries is a choice of scope: Trending Now covers a whole country with no keyword, while Google Trends related queries grow around a keyword you choose. Newsrooms watch the first; SEO teams planning topics read the second.

Is the Trending Now volume the search volume of a keyword?

No. The volume bucket is Google's approximate count of searches for the whole trend, which groups several related searches.

How many trends does Google show for the United States?

About 300 trends for the last 24 hours and about 1,900 for the last 7 days, according to the Kwerix Google Trends API README.
