What data does the Google Trends API extract?
The Google Trends API extracts 6 types of Google Trends data for every keyword in one run, and returns one compact row per keyword in JSON, CSV or Excel.
| Data | Fields | Example (sunscreen, US, 5 years) |
|---|---|---|
| Interest over time | averageInterest, peakDate, interestOverTime | average 26.3, peak week 100 |
| Interest by region | interestByRegion (country, region or US metro) | Wyoming 100, Hawaii 82 |
| Related queries | topQueries, risingQueries, breakoutQueries | «beauty of joseon»: Breakout |
| Comparison | comparison.rank, comparison.averageOnCommonScale | rank 1 of 12 |
| Seasonality | peakMonths, nextPeakDate, publishBy | Jun, May, Apr · publish by 2027-04-24 |
| Trend | trendSlopePctPerYear, yoyChangePct | +21.6% per year · +55.9% year over year |
The Google Trends API reads web, YouTube, News, Images and Shopping searches, for any country, time range and category, according to the Actor’s README on the Apify Store.
What does the Google Trends API return that Google Trends does not?
The Google Trends API returns 3 things that the Google Trends website does not.
Any number of keywords on one 0–100 scale
The Google Trends API puts any number of keywords on one 0–100 scale, while the Google Trends website scales every request to its own maximum and compares up to 8 groups of terms in the new Explore and 5 in Classic Explore, according to Google Trends Help. The Google Trends API batches the list with a shared anchor keyword and rescales every batch to it, so 50 or 500 keywords get one ranking. Google Trends compare runs the same method in the browser.
A seasonality summary with a publish-by date
The Google Trends API adds a seasonality summary with a publish-by date to every seasonal keyword. The API marks a keyword as seasonal when the monthly swing is large and the yearly peak lands in the same months year after year, and each seasonal row carries the peak months, the next peak date and a publish-by date 45 days before the peak, the lead time the Actor uses by default.
One compact row per keyword
The Google Trends API returns one row per keyword with stable field names, so a spreadsheet, a pipeline or an AI agent reads it without parsing timelines. The full weekly timeline is one switch away (includeInterestOverTime).
How much does the Google Trends API cost?
The Google Trends API costs $1.50 per 1,000 keywords for keyword analysis and $0.50 per 1,000 trends for Trending Now, with no start fee and no subscription.
| Mode | Price | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword analysis | $1.50 per 1,000 keywords ($0.0015 each) | 100 keywords = $0.15 |
| Trending Now | $0.50 per 1,000 trends ($0.0005 each) | US, last 24 hours (about 300 trends) ≈ $0.15 |
| Run start | $0 | — |
The Google Trends API charges one event per result row, and keywords that fail are never charged. Apify’s free plan includes $5 of usage every month, about 3,300 keywords or 10,000 trends, and a maxTotalChargeUsd option caps what a single run can cost.
How to get Google Trends data via API
There are 5 steps to get Google Trends data via the API.
- Create a free Apify account.
- Copy your API token from Apify Console → Settings → API & Integrations.
- Send the keywords, a location and a time range to
kwerix/google-trends-api. - Run the Actor from Python, JavaScript, plain HTTP or an MCP client.
- Read the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel.
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("kwerix/google-trends-api").call(
run_input={"keywords": ["sunscreen", "retinol"], "geo": "US"}
)
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(row["keyword"], row["trendSlopePctPerYear"], row["breakoutQueries"][:3])import { ApifyClient } from "apify-client";
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor("kwerix/google-trends-api").call({
keywords: ["sunscreen", "retinol"],
geo: "US",
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items[0].seasonality.publishBy);curl -s -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/kwerix~google-trends-api/run-sync-get-dataset-items?maxTotalChargeUsd=0.5" \

}The code examples come from the Kwerix examples repository on GitHub, which adds scripts for keyword comparison, a seasonal content calendar and Trending Now.
Trending Now: what is trending in any country
The Trending Now mode returns what is trending in any country: every trending search for the last 4, 24 or 48 hours or 7 days, at $0.50 per 1,000 trends. Each row carries Google’s search volume bucket (for example 200K+), the increase in percent, the categories, the start and end time and the related searches grouped into the trend. The volume bucket is Google’s estimate for the whole trend, not the search volume of a keyword.

}Google Trends API providers compared
The Google Trends API from Kwerix is one of 5 common ways to get Google Trends data programmatically, with prices as published on each provider’s page in September 2026.
| Provider | Access | Price | Keywords on one scale | Seasonality summary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kwerix Google Trends API | Apify Actor, pay per result | $1.50 per 1,000 keywords; no start fee | Any number (shared anchor) | Yes, with publish-by date |
| Google Trends API (official) | Alpha, access by application | Not published | Consistently scaled across requests | — |
| SerpApi | Monthly subscription | $25 for 1,000 searches to $275 for 30,000; free plan with 250 searches | Up to 5 per search | — |
| DataForSEO | Pay as you go | $0.0027 per task (standard queue, up to 45 minutes) or $0.011 (live); a task holds up to 5 keywords | Up to 5 per task | — |
| pytrends | Open-source Python library | Free | Up to 5 per request | — |
— means the feature is not documented on the provider’s Google Trends page. DataForSEO’s standard queue costs about $0.54 per 1,000 keywords when every task carries 5 keywords, which is cheaper per keyword than Kwerix; the Kwerix Google Trends API adds the common scale for any number of keywords, the seasonality summary and synchronous results.
pytrends, the official alpha and Kwerix
pytrends, the official alpha and Kwerix differ in access. The pytrends library is free and was archived by its owner on April 17, 2025, according to its GitHub repository. The official Google Trends API offers consistently scaled data for a 1,800-day window, but Google opens it by application to a limited number of developers, according to the Google Search Central Blog. The Kwerix Google Trends API runs today without an application.
- Developers moving off the archived library read the pytrends alternative guide, with a line-by-line migration of the Python code.
- Teams on a monthly search plan compare price per keyword and scale limits on the SerpApi Google Trends alternative page.
What are the limits of Google Trends data?
Google Trends data has 5 limits that every Google Trends API inherits, according to Google Trends Help.
- Relative, not absolute. Google Trends values are search interest from 0 to 100, where 100 is the peak of the term in the selected location and time range, not a search volume.
- Scaled per request. Each request is scaled to its own maximum, so values from two requests only compare through a shared keyword.
- Sampled, with noise. Google Trends uses a sample of searches and adds statistical noise for privacy, most visible on terms with little interest.
- Low volume reads 0. Terms searched by very few people appear as 0.
- Rate-limited. Google answers bursts of requests from one IP with HTTP 429, which the Kwerix Google Trends API handles by retrying on a fresh session.
